The Master and Margarita

Bulgakov's novel has been the central subject of my work for over twenty years. The cycle runs to some seven hundred canvases and sheets.

The characters carry their own constant marks: Woland with mismatched eyes, Margarita with yellow flowers, Behemoth the cat behaving as a man, Pontius Pilate always in half-turn with shadow across one side of his face.

In 2010 ninety works from the cycle entered the Polish edition of the novel, which has been reprinted twice. The novel does not exhaust itself — each return turns up a scene that would not come before.
