A cycle with no literary source. The figures here have no names: those who sit at the table, those who stand beside it, and those who are not shown at all.

What interests me is not any particular power but its mechanics — how a person's bearing changes once they can decide on behalf of others.

This cycle is still going. Every few years it finds a new occasion.
